- Customers are also responsible for the security and safekeeping of documents (customer copies) relating to the purchase of any firearm as required by Maine Law.
Federal Regulations
Federal regulations dictate that all FFL Dealers maintain form 4473’s and their Acquisitions & Depositions books for 20 years. Please be aware of the following:
- The dealer that completes your firearms transfer will be the one to actually maintain these items for their records.
- When we ship firearms to other FFLs, an entry is made into our Acquisitions & Depositions Book. This entry contains the information of the dealer that we are shipping your firearm(s) to, not the customer.
- If we accept a transfer of a firearm on your behalf, we are required to complete the 4473 with you and enter your information into our Acquisition & Depositions book. This information will then be stored at our offices for 20 years.
- Should Western Mountain Sports discontinue our FFL Dealer status, all records of firearms transfers must be sent to the ATF.
